A leading Scottish IT company has further enhanced its customer service, thanks to vehicle tracking.
Based in Livingston, Capito has been providing IT services and solutions to the commercial and public sectors for over 25 years.
It has fitted Trakm8 Prime devices to two of its vans, which transport high-value IT equipment to customers throughout Scotland. The vehicles provide IT equipment delivery, installation, maintenance, and repair services to sensitive sites including hospitals and prisons, as well as many local authorities.
David Anderson, Warehouse and Logistics Manager for Capito, said: "We have definitely seen improvements in key metrics such as keeping within appropriate speed limits and in fuel consumption – we are getting much better MPG out of our vehicles."
“A major advantage is being able to give our customers accurate estimated times of arrival. In a single day, a driver might be making deliveries in Lanarkshire and Renfrewshire, then collections at multiple sites in Glasgow. Our ability to provide our customers with up-to-date ETAs helps them to better plan their days."
“We had tried using a smartphone app for vehicle tracking, but found that it was not suitable," added David. "We very quickly realised how beneficial this technology would be for our business."
Priced from just £6.99 per vehicle, per month, Trakm8 Prime is a cost-effective fleet management tool for small businesses. It combines GPS tracking with business and private mileage management as well as vehicle health alerts. It also monitors driver behaviour KPIs such as excessive acceleration, harsh braking, sharp cornering, and engine idling.
"We can keep an eye on how our employees are operating the vehicles, through these metrics," said David. "We have used Trakm8 Prime as a training tool to improve driving. Initially there was some resistance from the drivers, but they have come to realise the benefits of Trakm8 Prime for their safety as well as our corporate liability.
"At team meetings the guys are always keen to hear how close they got to the 100% target during the previous week – there is friendly competition to achieve a higher mark than their colleagues."
Capito has a 3.5t LCV with a Luton body for deliveries, and a Citroen Berlingo van for engineer emergency call-outs. It also hires an additional van as required, and holds a third tracking unit in reserve for these occasions.
"The fact that the Trakm8 Prime device is easily transferrable from one vehicle to another is of real benefit to us," said David. “For example, we recently off-hired a Luton van and hired a Ford Transit panel van. We were able to quickly transfer the tracking unit from one to the other."
